Have you been taking antacids like candy?

Do you wonder if this burning sensation that runs your throat will stop?

There are several things to ask yourself about your condition. Since when was it happening? How often do you take antacids ?
Is there anything in my diet that may cause this interaction? What steps can I take to relieve my symptoms? Let's take a look and try to get some answers.

If you are suffering from heartburn for a long time, you should make an appointment with your doctor. You may want to make some simple tests to help your doctor evaluate your situation and develop a program to help you deal with your symptoms.
Because persistent heartburn can lead to more serious conditions, your doctor may need results from a test called GI.
This is a series of x-rays taken from the esophagus, stomach and upper intestine. Drinking a type of skim milk called barium will show you pictures of any abnormalities. The results of these tests will provide information that your doctor needs to make an appropriate assessment of the seriousness of your condition, and a care plan can be designed.

Even though you should always consult with your physician, you can and should take an active role in any health condition that develops. One of the biggest contributing factors to heartburn and/or acid reflux is eating before bed.
Eating an excessive amount of sugars and carbohydrates with high concentrations of flour, or acid foods such as rich Italian dishes with a tomato sauce, may result in an evening of stomach acid backing up into the esophagus.
Diet is very important in the recovery of this condition. Developing a habit of refraining from food about 3 to 4 hours before going to bed will definitely assist your body with proper digestion.
Keeping your upper body elevated slightly above the rest of your body may also alleviate your heartburn symptoms.

There are over the counter medications to help rectify the problem.
The most popular are Prevacid and Prilosec. Explain your symptoms to your druggist and he/she can recommend which medication would be best suited for your situation and not interfere with other medications you are taking.

Last, but certainly not least, is a home remedy which has proven very successful for some people who have periodic minor discomfort from heartburn. If you have eaten a meal that you know is going to cause you some distress, mix a couple teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and a third cup of water to sip after your meal. It just might be the answer for you.
